Her central topics are Neuroscience Nursing, Palliative Care, End-of-Life Care, End-of-Life-Decision Making and Assisted Suicide. In addition she was involved in the development and validation of the pain assessment instrument ZOPA (Zurich Observation Pain Assessment) for patients with neurologically induced communication problems. She works also as a lecturer in neuroscience nursing. At the moment she is involved in the development of a master of advanced studies in neuroscience nursing.

She  works for the most with educating and developing her colleagues, some teaching and counselling. Kate MCArdlehas been a board member of the British Association of Neuroscience Nurses since 1975 and plan to retire from this role in October 2010. SheI has worked in Neurosciences from 1974 till 2008 when she retired from work.  Latterly She was in charge of an expanding Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit.  Her role was both challenging and extremely satisfying and she was fortunate to be able to work as a clinician as well as manager throughout her career. Last year she was part of the scientific committee for the WFNN congress in Toronto.  This was an exciting role reading and selecting abstracts for the final programme. She is very happy to offer to assist people at the next EANN congress in Belgium with the language aspect of their abstract, presentation or slides.
